National Yoga Month: Muladhara Asanas, Mudra, & Mantra

In celebrating National Yoga Month, I pulled the Muladhara Chakra, or Root Chakra Yoga Asanas from my Chakra Mind Body Spirit Deck for things to do today for my well-being!




I combined the list with another deck of Yoga Cards from Workout Labs to help to have a demonstration of the proper form for 3 Asanas, 1 Mudra and 1 Mantra.

Mountain Pose (Tadasana) - Breathe in and raise your toes gently and try to balance your body on your heels. Stretch your shoulders, arms and chest upwards while your toes bear your body weight. Feel the stretch in your body from the head to the feet. Hold this pose for about 5 to 10 seconds and then gently exhale.



Standing Wide-Legged Foward Fold (Prasarita Padottanasana)- Have feet about 3-5 feet apart parallel. Lengthen your spine and inhale then bend forward with exhale. Walk your palms from your legs to the floor then parallel to your feet. Hold ten seconds and longer.



Earth Mudra-What is Earth Mudra? It is a hand gesture that is said to strengthen the Earth element within the body, keeping you feeling secure, grounded and connected to your physical body. When the tips of the ring finger and thumb are joined, and the rest of the fingers in the hand are kept straight. Breathe in and out. Hold 10 seconds and longer.



Cooling Breath (Sheetali Pranayama) -Sit in a comfortable position and lengthen your spine. Rest your hands on your knees and close your eyes. Exhale completely. Open your lips and roll your tongue. Inhale slowly through your tongue. Exhale through your nose. Repeat ten times.



LAM Mantra- (Muladhara Bija Manta) - This is passage or mantra meditation. This mantra carries a root chakra vibration. Take a few natural breaths. Begin chanting the mantra: say the word “LAM” out loud, slowly and mindfully. Continue for several minutes. Focus on the sound, the feeling of lips touching, or vibration in throat. Open your eyes when you are ready.
